It’s May, and summer is officially here! I’ve been fishing from the boat lately for tarpon as they start to show up in greater numbers. While the action has been hit or miss, we have seen noticeable improvement in the last several weeks. Kingfish are still around, and the tarpon bite is really picking up.

While fishing in the bay last week for tarpon I landed this 25 pound kingfish… not what we were targeting but not a bad by catch either! As you can see in the picture the weather was a little rainy on this day, but we did proceed to jump 9 tarpon as well.

This past week we have been tarpon fishing pretty hard. We’ve been targeting the tarpon around the mouth of the bay and on the beaches. Fishing with live and dead shad and threadfin herrings we have had a couple very good days.  During a 3 day stretch we managed to jump 13 fish.  Tough to get pictures of them with your cell phone…
