I had the pleasure of fishing with Nativity Catholic Church’s youth group over the weekend of the 26th while they stayed at the camp grounds in Fort Desoto Park. We fished two days, starting around noon each day. With over 15 kids there, we split into groups between myself and three other counselors with the goal to make sure everyone got a chance to catch some good fish and to bring enough fish back to feed everyone dinner.

During the two days we fished hard with the main targets being redfish, trout and sharks. We were more than successful catching all three. We hooked some monster sharks for 6 feet that we did not land, but were successful in landing dozens of bonnet head sharks, black tips to 4 feet, spinning sharks to 5 feet and plenty of redfish and trout to go around and provide ample dinners.

Having the opportunity to fish with these kids, many of whom had never caught a fish, was an incredible experience. It was a refreshing change of pace and one I will for ever be thankful for. Take a kid fishing!
