Met Dave, Derrick and Brian on the south shore of Tampa Bay around 730 in the morning and had the kayaks in the water and on our way out by 8. The tide was falling for the first two hours of the trip and we stayed in the boats working sand areas and mullet schools while we made our way north. After a little over a mile and a couple hours of fishing we staked out an area with some nice potholes. With the tide now low, the fish were stuck in the holes and ready to be fed.
We waded the flat for the next several hours picking up our share of snook, redfish and lots of nice sized keeper trout. The majority of the fish were caught in and around the sand potholes, with a few tailing redfish mixed in. The boys got a nice stringer of redfish and trout to bring home, with plenty of catch and release snook action.
With an approaching front, we decided to high tail it out of there just before the winds picked up and eventually the rain moved on shore.
Baits of choice today were Slayer Inc SSB in pepper death and STB in pearl.
